In 2007, Dave, Marvin and Wendell decided to climb Mount Rainier, the highest mountain in the Cascade Range and the most heavily glaciated peak in the lower 48 states.
On their climb, they met Gary Talcott, a mountain guide. While getting to know Gary they learned that his father had passed away from ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease) After a successful climb, the mountaineers stayed in contact with Gary
The following year, with the addition of Jon and Jame, they formed a team determined to raise awareness about ALS through their climbs.
In 2009, they formed "Mountaineering For A Cure" and raised nearly $2000 for the fight against ALS. 100% of the funds went directly to The ALS Association's work to provide support services to ALS patients and to it's research to find the cure.
Although the economy has certainly slowed down, and we've all had to tighten our belts, ALS has no economic boundaries. There are still thousands of patients who continue to be afflicted with ALS and the Mountaineers are dedicated to help make their lives just a bit more comfortable.

Come ROCK for a CAUSE. Proceeds go to the fight against Lou Gehrig's Disease: Aid to those who are living with it, and research so that we can someday find a Cause so that we can find a Cure.
Rock Out ALS is a Campaign to unite the Rock Music Industry to raise awareness of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), which is better known as Lou Gehrig's Disease.
Started in Seattle in Sept. of 2009, Rock Out ALS was only going to be an annual all day show. Quickly, a Campaign to raise awareness using Rock to garner attention was begun.
Several Shows in various locations a year will be held starting in Seattle and networking with other organizers and promoters in other cities. Each Show will combine top notch talent and compasionate, honest, blunt information about What ALS is, What it does, and how people can help.
Each Band that plays AND supports Rock Out ALS gets the same support back. Rock Out ALS promotes and "endorses" the bands that support it in every way it can, so the bands that donate their time get something in return.
Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis or ALS is a 100% fatal motor-neuron disease that attacks the brain's ability to control the body's "voluntary muscle function". It eventualy leaves a fully functioning/feeling/emotional brain in a motionless and speachless body untill death, which is typically 2 - 5 years. Imagine the video for Metalica's ONE, where clips from Johnny Got His Gun was used. It's the same thing at the end, but without the bobbing of mores code. Imagine what "voluntary" muscle function really is: you can hold your breath; you voluntarily speak; you choose how many times to chew and when to swallow. These are only SOME of the voluntary muscle functions victims of Lou Gehrig's Disease loose..

Friends and Family Fundraisers (Third Party Events)
What is a Third-Party Event?
A Third-Party Fundraising Event is a fundraiser that benefits The ALS Association Evergreen Chapter but is not organized, funded or put on by the Chapter. Third-Party Events are a GREAT way to have fun and benefit the ALS community at the same time. Anyone can do it; you can help support our mission of helping people with ALS by fundraising for The ALS Association Evergreen Chapter.
How will Chapter staff participate?
Because of the volume of these requests, we cannot guarantee that we will be able to personally participate in Third-Party Events. We cannot staff your event as we are involved in our year round fundraising efforts: the Hearts of Hope Dinner & Auction, the ALS DoubleDay bike ride, and the Walk to Defeat ALS program. These events, along with other fundraisers and awareness events support the Chapter’s all important services to ALS patients and their families.
We can help with some promotion of your event via email and our website – we’ve created a special page just to do that: Third-Party Fundraising page. We’ll also provide some Chapter materials. Make your requests by calling the Chapter office: 425-656-1650 or emailing us at info@alsa-ec.org. We’d love to announce post pictures of your event on our Third-Party Fundraising page.
Can the Chapter help to cover the costs of our event?
No, our event expenses are budgeted in advance for the events the Chapter runs. We can not be responsible for any expenses incurred for a Third-Party Event.
What are some examples of Third-Party Fundraisers?
