2020 Silver Valley Ride to Defeat ALS and Walk

Update August 2020

Silver Valley Walk to Defeat ALS: A Walk in Your Neighborhood is an opportunity to safely walk in our neighborhoods to honor those living with ALS and remember those we have lost. The Evergreen Chapter territory is almost a million square miles, covering the largest land area of all the Chapters - almost a quarter of the United States! We would love to see support across our whole territory, touching each corner of the area we serve. Walk with people in your comfort “bubble” while following your local government guidelines. Registered walkers can pick-up Unlock ALS lanyards and keys in September. You’ll be notified by email when the date is set. Opening Ceremony will be streamed at 10:00 PST on Saturday, September 19. Watch the short, inspiring program from your smartphone, laptop, tablet, or smart TV. Start your team today!

Update June 3, 2020

Announcing a COMPETITION that will challenge you to raise awareness, fundraise, and pedal that bike!

To protect our friends living with ALS and due to the restrictions put in place by the Covid-19 situation, Cindy's Ride to Defeat ALS is now VIRTUAL.  We have switched all FOUR of our Evergreen Chapter Rides to a COMPETITION that will start June 21st and culminate on July 25th

We’ll be awarding some great PRIZES to spur your involvement. From June 21 to July 25 we will be in a competition with three other rides that include even more prizes. #RidetoDefeatALS

We encourage you to register, sign-up for the free Strava app, join the Cindy's Ride Silver Valley Ride to Defeat ALS Cycling Club in Strava, and join our Facebook event page. Prizes will be awarded through the various channels for participation, fundraising, etc. Registrations are now free.  Previous registrants can either donate their registration fee (It is now fully tax deductible!) or request a refund by June 17th by emailing amara@alsa-ec.org. Competitions and winners will be announced through email and on the Facebook event page.

Update: April 23, 2020

Due to CDC recommendations related to coronavirus (COVID-19), the 2020 Silver Valley Walk to Defeat ALS will be restructured into a virtual event. We had hoped that rescheduling the physical Walk would be a feasible option, but there is currently too much uncertainty around when that would be a possibility.

Over the coming weeks, we’ll be incorporating new ways to connect the incredible network of people committed to supporting the ALS community while leveraging the tools available to us to continue raising ALS awareness and generating the resources that will help meet the needs of people living with ALS and their families.

For now, we ask for two things. One, we hope you’ll continue to register and fundraise as you normally would utilizing the fundraising platforms the Chapter provides. Second, in order to create an engaging Virtual Walk, we ask you for your participation by creating a short 30 second to 2-minute video that we can play during the virtual walk. Below are some questions to get you thinking about what you’d like to say on the recording. (Pick one).

  • What advice would you offer to a person newly diagnosed with ALS?
  • What advice would you offer to the caregiver of a newly diagnosed ALS patient?
  • How are the support services offered through ALSA helpful?
  • What piece of equipment/assistive technology do you appreciate the most and how has it made life easier for you?
  • Why is the Walk to Defeat ALS important to you, your family, your team? Who do you walk for?

If you don’t want to put together a video, you can either record your voice and submit photos or submit your answer in writing with a photo. We encourage you to be creative with costumes, signage, backgrounds, and action. You can also use your video to send messages of encouragement and love to other teams or walkers on your team you can’t be with on Walk Day. Questions? I would love to help you create your video! Please reach out to me!! When you are ready to send in your video, please send me an email at amara@alsa-ec.org and I will help you submit.

We want this to be fun and engaging while raising awareness and resources for the families in our Chapter.  Our main goal is to KEEP YOU HEALTHY! We will greatly miss spending time with you on walk day when we come together as a community to Walk to Defeat ALS, but we can still work together and support each other during this time.

We can’t wait to share your videos of hope, love and inspiration!
