Our Progress:

2020 Virtual Anchorage

Due to CDC recommendations related to coronavirus (COVID-19), the 2020 Anchorage Walk to Defeat ALS will be restructured into a virtual event. We had hoped that rescheduling the physical Walk would be a feasible option, but there is currently too much uncertainty around when that would be a possibility.

Over the coming weeks, we’ll be incorporating new ways to connect the incredible network of people committed to supporting the ALS community while leveraging the tools available to us to continue raising ALS awareness and generating the resources that will help meet the needs of people living with ALS and their families.

For now, we ask for two things. One, we hope you’ll continue to register and fundraise as you normally would utilizing the fundraising platforms the Chapter provides. Second, in order to create an engaging Virtual Walk, we ask you for your participation by creating a short 30 second to 2-minute video that we can play during the virtual walk. Below are some questions to get you thinking about what you’d like to say on the recording. (Pick one).

  • What advice would you offer to a person newly diagnosed with ALS?
  • What advice would you offer to the caregiver of a newly diagnosed ALS patient?
  • How are the support services offered through ALSA helpful?
  • What piece of equipment/assistive technology do you appreciate the most and how has it made life easier for you?
  • Why is the Walk to Defeat ALS important to you, your family, your team? Who do you walk for?

If you don’t want to put together a video, you can either record your voice and submit photos or submit your answer in writing with a photo. We encourage you to be creative with costumes, signage, backgrounds, and action. You can also use your video to send messages of encouragement and love to other teams or walkers on your team you can’t be with on Walk Day. Questions? I would love to help you create your video! Please reach out to me!! When you are ready to send in your video, please send me an email at amara@alsa-ec.org and I will help you submit.

We want this to be fun and engaging while raising awareness and resources for the families in our Chapter.  Our main goal is to KEEP YOU HEALTHY! We will greatly miss spending time with you on walk day when we come together as a community to Walk to Defeat ALS, but we can still work together and support each other during this time.

We can’t wait to share your videos of hope, love and inspiration!
