Dr. Teepu Siddique was one of an international team of scientists who
discovered the SOD1 mutation in Familial ALS in 1993, the ALS2(alsin)
gene in 2001 and helped develop a genetic mouse model of ALS in 1994.

Most recently, Dr. Siddique and his team at Northwestern University in
Chicago have discovered that the protein ubiquilin 2 isn’t doing its job in
ALS patients, causing accumulations which may cause degeneration in the motor neurons.
